Homogeneity, Flatness and "Large" Extra Dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We consider a model in which the universe is the direct product of a (3+1)-dimensional Friedmann, Robertson-Walker (FRW) space and a compact hyperbolic manifold (CHM). Standard Model fields are confined to a point in the CHM (i.e. to a brane).

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Investigating the influence of dielectric pads in 7T magnetic resonance imaging – simulated and experimental assessment

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2020
Dipole radiofrequency (RF) elements have been successfully used to compose multi-channel RF coils for ultrahigh fields (UHF) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Products and countable dense homogeneity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Building on work of Baldwin and Beaudoin, assuming Martin's Axiom, we construct a zero-dimensional separable metrizable space $X$ such that $X$ is countable dense homogeneous while $X^2$ is not. It follows from results of Hru\v{s}\'ak and Zamora Avil\'es

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Diversifying Academic Philosophy

open access: yesAsian Studies, 2020
The article asks why, in Western universities, the success of the academic field of comparative philosophy has so far failed to significantly diversify the curricula of academic philosophy.

Relevant Logics Obeying Component Homogeneity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper discusses three relevant logics that obey Component Homogeneity - a principle that Goddard and Routley introduce in their project of a logic of significance. The paper establishes two main results.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.
