Acta Psychologica, 1987 Abstract Recent data concerning the effects of articulatory suppression on the time taken to decide whether pairs of letter strings rhyme or sound the same are inconsistent. A consideration of the nature of the two tasks, as well as independent experimental evidence, suggests that they have different processing requirements.
