Saccharomyces cerevisiae homoserine kinase is homologous to prokaryotic homoserine kinases
Gene, 1990The Saccharomyces cerevisiae gene (THR1) encoding homoserine kinase (HK; EC 2.7.1.39) was cloned by complementation in yeast. Disruption of the THR1 gene results in threonine auxotrophy in yeast. Comparison of the amino acid sequences of yeast and bacterial HKs reveals substantial similarity.

A Convenient Resolution of (±)-Homoserine to Afford Carbobenzoxy-D-Homoserine and D-Homoserine
Preparative Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1981Abstract D-Homoserine is an amino acid that has recently been found t o occur in the Nocardicin antibiotics. Herein we describe a simple resolution of the racemic material to afford carbobenzoxy-D-homo- serine via the L-tyrosinehydrazide salt and hence also D-homoserine itself.

Bacillus megaterium CYP102A1 Oxidation of Acyl Homoserine Lactones and Acyl Homoserines
Biochemistry, 2007Quorum sensing, the ability of bacteria to sense their own population density through the synthesis and detection of small molecule signals, has received a great deal of attention in recent years. Acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs) are a major class of quorum sensing signaling molecules. In nature, some bacteria that do not synthesize AHLs themselves have

Decreased homoserine levels in metabolic syndrome
Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research & Reviews, 2020The pathogenesis Metabolic Syndrome (MetS), a common global problem, remains to be elucidated. As part of our exploratory metabolomics research we determined if homoserine levels are an early biomarker of nascent MetS.An exploratory study involving 28 patients with nascent MetS and 20 matched controls.

Biosynthesis of threonine from homoserine in pea seedlings: I. Homoserine kinase.
Plant Science Letters, 1978Summary Homoserine kinase was partially purified from green shots of 2-week-old pea ( Pisum sativum L. cv. Pillert Fenomen) seedlings. The enzyme had an absolute requirement for both divalent (mg 2+ and Mn 2+ ) and monovalent (K + ) cations. The K m values of homoserine (6.7 mM) and ATp (2.7 mM) were much higher than for the enzyme from barley ...

Determination of homoserine as the lactone
Analytical Biochemistry, 1970Abstract An accurate method for the analysis of homoserine has been developed which can be carried out in a reasonable time without requiring elaborate or expensive equipment. Homoserine is converted to the corresponding lactone by evaporation of the sample to dryness from a 3 N hydrochloric acid solution.
