Bemisiose: an unusual trisaccharide in Bemisia honeydew

Carbohydrate Research, 1994
A gradient high performance anion-exchange chromatography analysis of Bemisia honeydew was carried out in order to analyze the sugar mixture more completely. From the results of the experiments by using chemical-ionization and electron-ionization gas chromatography, enzyme digestion, and H and C NMR that showed this saccharide to be a trisaccharide ...

Quantitative Field Collection of Honeydew

Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 1971
The collection of metabolic products of insects can be the most difficult part of quantitative field studies. Recently we encountered the problem of how to quantitatively collect honeydew from individual tuliptree scales, Toumeyella liriodendri (Gmelin) (Homoptera: Coccidae), infesting field-grown yellow-poplars, Liriodendron tidipifera L.

Carbohydrate analysis of beech honeydew

New Zealand Journal of Zoology, 1989
Abstract Honeydew from the beech scale insect, Ultracoelostoma assimile, infesting the beech species Nothofagus fusca and N. solandri var. solandri contained fructose, sucrose, glucose, and several non-reducing oligosaccharides composed of glucose and fructose residues.

Honeydew

2014
Honeydew is excreted (waste) product of Hemipterans Insect related with Sternorrhyncha and Auchenorrhyncha species. Honeydew is liquid syrup substance. Insect diet changes within insect gut facilities, and produce honeydew which contains a variety of saccharides and oligosaccharides also in some proteins in some species.

Identification of raffinose in honeydew

Experientia, 1984
The presence of small amounts of raffinose in the honeydew of 6 aphid species was demonstrated by means of TLC and GLC after invertase hydrolysis. The method allows the detection of this sugar even in the presence of a high percentage of melezitose.

Sugar composition of ergot honeydews

Canadian Journal of Botany, 1975
Honeydews of several Claviceps spp., Sphacelia spp., and Sphacelia-like fungi were analyzed for differences in their sugar composition. Sugars were separated for comparative and preparative purposes by gel filtration and paper chromatography. The structures of pure sugars were determined with the use of periodate, enzymes, deuterium labeling, nuclear ...

Snowdrop lectin ( Galanthus nivalis agglutinin) in aphid honeydew negatively affects survival of a honeydew‐ consuming parasitoid

Agricultural and Forest Entomology, 2009
Abstract 1 Insecticidal proteins can be excreted in the honeydew when sap‐sucking insects feed on insect‐resistant transgenic plants. Honeydew can be an important source of carbohydrates, thus potentially exposing a broad range of honeydew‐feeding insects to transgene products. 2 Snowdrop lectin (

Honeydew honey: biological effects on skin cells

Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 2017
Honey is a natural product well known by humankind and now reconsidered for its use as topical agent for wound and burn treatments. Floral honey is made by honeybees from the nectar of blossoms, while honeydew honey is prepared from secretions of plants or excretions of plant-sucking insects.

Bioactive properties of blossom and honeydew honeys

2019
In this study, it was aimed to determine the bioactive properties of honeydew and blossom honeys produced in Turkey. Botanical origins of honey samples (locust, sunflower, citrus, lavender, coriander, euphorbia, rhododendron, chestnut, carob, thyme, rape, linden, pumpkin, heather, nigella, milk thistle, pine and oak honeys) collected from different ...
