Chlorophyllase and ??-aminolevulinic acid dehidratase activities, pigments content in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) seedlings grown on the slow horizontal clinostat and vertical control were studied. It was found that chlorophyllase activity markedly decline under clinorotation.

Sitosterol biosynthesis in Hordeum vulgare
Phytochemistry, 1975Abstract Excised barley embryos cultured on a nutrient medium containing methionine-[CD 3 ] incorporated deuterium into the newly biosynthesized sterols. Two deuterium atoms were present in 24-methylenecycloartanol, 24-methylenelophenol and campesterol and a maximum of four deuterium atoms were incorporated into 24-ethylidenelophenol, stigmasterol ...

Cultivated barley, Hordeum vulgare L., is one of the leading experimental organisms in genetic studies of flowering plants. The wide use of this important agricultural crop plant in genetic studies may be attributed to its diploid nature, low chromosome number (2n = 14), world-wide distribution, high degree of self-fertility, ease of hybridization ...

Transgenic Barley (Hordeum vulgare)
2000Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) ranks as the world’s fourth most important cereal crop after wheat, maize, and rice (Poehlman 1987; FAO 1996). It is grown over a wider environmental range than any other cereal crop, and grows in many areas probably unsuitable for the other crops.

Methods in molecular biology (Clifton, N.J.), 2006
Crop improvement is limited by the availability of valuable traits in sexually compatible species. Access to new characters using genetic engineering would be of great value. Barley has been transformed using microprojectile bombardment and by direct gene transfer to protoplasts, but neither method has been able to produce fertile transformants in ...

Analysis of molecular-genetic polymorphism of barley varieties was performed using the AFLP-method. A system for identification and differentiation of barley varieties based on AFLP-markers was developed. Results of testing of 19 varieties indicate a high differential ability of the developed system.
