Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

The Impact of Different Excavation Support Structures on the Deformation and Stability of Adjacent Station and Tunnels

open access: yesBuildings
This study uses the finite element software Midas GTS NX (2019), combined with actual engineering projects, to establish numerical models and analyze the impact of different support types (pile-anchor support and double-row pile support) on the ...

Experimental and finite element study of a standing torus under normal and tangential loads [PDF]

open access: yes
The effect of a combined external load consisting of a normal component and a tangential braking force applied to an inflated torus is addressed. Experimental results obtained by photographic study of the contact area between the torus and load plate are

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Two-axis leveling detector system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Electro-mechanical device for measuring tilt angles in order to establish level base without optical reference is described. Angular displacement is detected by movement of bubble in conducting fluid containing electrode network. Electrical signal causes

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Variation in Barbell Position Relative to Shoulder and Foot Anatomical Landmarks Alters Movement Efficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
International Journal of Exercise Science 5(3) : 183-195, 2012. The purpose of this study was to determine if either of the two deadlift starting positions would yield a more efficient movement than the other; (1) the traditional Olympic lifting and ...
