The photoswitchable cannabinoid azo‐HU308 enables optical control of Ca2+ dynamics in INS‐1 β‐cells via off‐target effects on TRPC channels

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Light activation of the photoswitchable cannabinoid ligand azo‐HU308 triggers Ca2+ influx in pancreatic β‐cells through TRPC channels, independent of CB2 cannabinoid receptors. This reveals a non‐GPCR pathway for cannabinoid modulation of β‐cell Ca2+ dynamics and establishes azo‐HU308 as an optical tool to study cannabinoid signaling through TRP ...

Functional Divergence of Glycoprotein Hormone Receptors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Two lamprey glycroprotein hormone receptors (lGpH-R I and II) highly similar with gnathostome GpH-Rs were cloned from sea lamprey testes and thyroid, respectively.

SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Association between eNOS 4b/a Polymorphism and the Risk of Diabetic Retinopathy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Meta-Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Research, 2014
Many studies have assessed the association between eNOS-4b/a polymorphism and the risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR) among type 2 diabetic subjects. However, the results are inconsistent.

Design Principles of Pancreatic Islets: Glucose-dependent Coordination of Hormone Pulses

open access: yes, 2015
Pancreatic islets are functional units involved in glucose homeostasis. The multicellular system comprises three main cell types; $\beta$ and $\alpha$ cells reciprocally decrease and increase blood glucose by producing insulin and glucagon pulses, while ...

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

A Comparison of Polyvalent Passive Immunoprotection from Antibodies with Different Immunity Models of Live or Inactivated Vibrio fluvialis in Fish

open access: yesFishes
Polyvalent passive vaccines can act fast in resisting various bacteria with good efficacy, and they have application value in aquaculture. This study prepared live and inactivated Vibrio fluvialis mouse antisera (L-VF-antiserum and I-VF-antiserum), and ...

Adult Hippocampal Neurogenesis: A Possible Way how Physical Exercise Counteracts Stress

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 2011
It was considered that neurogenesis only occurred during the embryonic and developmental stage. This view has greatly changed since the discovery of adult neurogenesis in two brain regions: the hippocampus and the olfactory bulb.
