Hormone replacement therapy and prevention of vertebral fractures: a meta-analysis of randomised trials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
BACKGROUND: Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is often seen as the treatment of choice for preventing fractures in women. We undertook a recent meta-analysis of randomised trials which suggested that HRT reduced non-vertebral fractures by 30%.

Longer Acting Injectable: Continuous, Linear Release of a Progestin Contraceptive From an Oxidized Porous Silicon Host

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Progestin drugs are loaded into a mesoporous silicon dioxide host by melt‐infiltration. Drugs that decompose at or close to their melting point can be loaded by the addition of cholesterol, which acts as a melting point suppressor. High mass loading of the drug is achieved, and dissolution of the composite is controlled by the nanoscale properties of ...

Modelling and analysis of time in-homogeneous recurrent event processes in a heterogeneous population: A case study of HRTs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
In this work we present a method for the statistical analysis of continually monitored data arising in a recurrent diseases problem. The model enables individual level inference in the presence of time transience and population heterogeneity. This is achieved by applying Bayesian hierarchical modelling, where marked point processes are used as ...

Hormone replacement therapy and the endometrium [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Pathology, 2001
Modern hormone replacement therapy (HRT) regimens contain oestrogen and progestogen, given either in a cyclical or continuous combined manner. Most endometrial biopsies from women on sequential HRT show weak secretory features. Approximately 15% show proliferative activity, although this figure may be less if more than nine days of progestogen is given

Advanced Multipurpose Spectroscopic Nanobio‐Device for Concurrent Lab‐on‐a‐Chip Label‐Free Separation and Detection of Extracellular Vesicles as Key‐Biomarkers for Point‐of‐Care Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostics

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
AIMSPec‐LoC is a novel lab‐on‐a‐chip platform integrating size‐based extracellular vesicle (EVs) separation with label‐free Raman spectroscopy and AI‐powered classification via SKiNET. This high‐throughput, portable system enables real‐time, multiplexed molecular fingerprinting of EVs from biofluids, offering transformative potential for early, non ...

Interval Estimation of Individual-Level Causal Effects Under Unobserved Confounding [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We study the problem of learning conditional average treatment effects (CATE) from observational data with unobserved confounders. The CATE function maps baseline covariates to individual causal effect predictions and is key for personalized assessments.

Predicting environment effects on breast cancer by implementing machine learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The biggest Breast cancer is increasingly a major factor in female fatalities, overtaking heart disease. While genetic factors are important in the growth of breast cancer, new research indicates that environmental factors also play a substantial role in its occurrence and progression. The literature on the various environmental factors that may affect

Tri‐Layered Bioactive Cutaneous Scaffold with Integrated Bioactive Metal Organic Frameworks to Promote Full‐Thickness Infected Diabetic Wound Healing: Multifaceted Therapeutic Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The limitations of existing clinical treatments highlight the need for a more comprehensive strategy for addressing infected diabetic wounds. A tri‐layered scaffold is developed to deliver therapeutics loaded in CuBDC and ZIF‐8 MOFs that are tailored to the requirements of deep‐infected diabetic wounds.

Dydrogesterone and norethisterone regulate expression of lipoprotein lipase and hormones-sensitive lipase in human subcutaneous abdominal adipocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Aim: In premenopausal women, hyper-androgenicity is associated with central obesity and an increased cardiovascular risk. We investigated the effects of dydrogesterone (DYD)(a non-androgenic progestogen) and norethisterone (NET)(an androgenic progestogen)

State‐of‐the‐Art, Insights, and Perspectives for MOFs‐Nanocomposites and MOF‐Derived (Nano)Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Different approaches to MOF‐NP composite formation, such as ship‐in‐a‐bottle, bottle‐around‐the‐ship and in situ one‐step synthesis, are used. Owing to synergistic effects, the advantageous features of the components of the composites are beneficially combined, and their individual drawbacks are mitigated.
