Covid-19: Hospitals move to create extra bed capacity to relieve pressure [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 2021
NHS hospitals across the UK are creating extra bed capacity to relieve ongoing operational pressures from covid-19 and to tackle the growing backlog in elective care. Reports are increasing of trusts being forced to cancel elective operations in the face of major pressure on services (box 1), and ongoing bed shortages are prompting some trusts to add ...

A geotemporal survey of hospital bed saturation across England during the first wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic

open access: yesmedRxiv, 2020
Background: Non-pharmacological interventions were introduced based on modelling studies which suggested that the English National Health Service (NHS) would be overwhelmed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, we describe the pattern of bed occupancy

Development of a Synthetic Hydrogel to Foster Microvascularization of an Endometriosis Microphysiological System

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ascent of novel alternative methods in drug development spotlights the dual needs for improved biological fidelity to in vivo, along with reproducibility, especially in regulatory applications. The need for pre‐clinical models of patient‐derived endometriosis lesions motivates the development of a vascularizable, completely synthetic ...

Distribution of hospital beds in Tehran Province based on Gini coefficient and Lorenz curve from 2010 to 2012

open access: yesElectronic Physician, 2015
Introduction: Fair distribution of hospital beds across various regions is a controversial subject. Resource allocation in health systems rarely has focused on those who need it most and, in addition, is often influenced by political interests.

Guidance for diabetic foot management during COVID-19 pandemic

open access: yesIndian Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, 2020
The Indian COVID-19 situation is and will demand more and more hospital bed capacity to manage. With diabetic foot disease (DFD) being a leading cause of hospital bed occupancy, managing these patients based on evidence-based guidelines can significantly

Melt Electrowriting High Resolution Poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) Scaffolds for Soft Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work pioneers melt electrowriting (MEW) of polyethylene vinyl acetate (PEVA) to fabricate ultra‐compliant, high‐resolution scaffolds. By integrating microscale precision with soft tissue‐like biomechanics, PEVA overcomes stiffness‐driven limitations of conventional MEW polymers, establishing a mechanically biomimetic platform for soft tissue ...

Wound Geometry Determines Whether Aligned‐Fiber Scaffolds Accelerate or Impede Diabetic Wound Healing: A Biased Random Walk Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Wound closure is governed by geometry‐orientation coupling: aligned fibers speed migration along their axis but hinder perpendicular advance. In vivo diabetic wound experiments with composition‐matched fibrin, combined with an anisotropic diffusion (biased random‐walk) model, quantify this trade‐off and generate a healing landscape.
