Differential colonization of host trees by galling aphids: Selection of hosts or selection by hosts?
Summary The pattern of adaptive diversification of galling aphids (Pemphigidae: Fordinae) on Pistacia (Anacardiaceae) is different from other gall-inducing insects. The Fordinae are host-specific, and radiated mainly by using different sites on one plant organ.

SELECTION FOR HOST MODIFICATION BY INSECT PARASITOIDS [PDF]
The ability of parasites to influence the behavior of their hosts is an important aspect of parasite-host biology (Price, 1980). Holmes and Bethel (1972) review an extensive literature that documents the influence of parasites on the behavior of their intermediate hosts.

Butterfly Learning and the Diversification of Plant Leaf Shape
Visual cues are important for insects to find flowers and host plants. It has been proposed that the diversity of leaf shape in Passiflora vines could be a result of negative frequency dependent selection driven by visual searching behavior among their ...

Tidal Disruption Event Host Galaxies in the Context of the Local Galaxy Population
We study the properties of tidal disruption event (TDE) host galaxies in the context of a catalog of ~500,000 galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.

Which trees die during drought? The key role of insect host‐tree selection
During drought, the tree subpopulations (such as size or vigour classes) that suffer disproportionate mortality can be conceptually arrayed along a continuum defined by the actions of biotic agents, particularly insects. At one extreme, stress dominates:

DIRECTED EVOLUTION: SELECTION OF THE HOST ORGANISM
Directed evolution has become a well-established tool for improving proteins and biological systems. A critical aspect of directed evolution is the selection of a suitable host organism for achieving functional expression of the target gene. To date, most directed evolution studies have used either Escherichia coli or Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a host;

Body size is a main fitness component of insect parasitoids. We assessed the potential influence of maternal size of the parasitoid wasp Aphidius colemani Viereck (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Aphidiinae) on its ability to parasitize the different instars of
