NAD+ and its possible role in gut microbiota: Insights on the mechanisms by which gut microbes influence host metabolism

open access: yesAnimal Nutrition, 2022
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is an enzyme cofactor, co-substrate, and redox factor in all living cells and is necessary for maintaining cell metabolism.

Energy Efficiency and Quality of Services in Virtualized Cloud Radio Access Network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) is being widely studied for soft and green fifth generation of Long Term Evolution - Advanced (LTE-A). The recent technology advancement in network virtualization function (NFV) and software defined radio (SDR) has ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Infection of Cypriniform Fishes with Argulus coregoni (Crustacea: Branchiura: Argulidae) in a Low-elevation Stream, Central Japan

open access: yesSpecies Diversity
Recent studies have reported that salmonids and ayu Plecoglossus altivelis altivelis (Temminck and Schlegel, 1846), both of which are salmoniform fishes, serve as important hosts for Argulus coregoni Thorell, 1864. These studies found the parasite in the

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Argulus coregoni (Crustacea: Branchiura: Argulidae) Parasitic on a Freshwater Minnow Opsariichthys platypus (Cypriniformes: Xenocyprididae) in a Low-Elevation Stream in Kyushu, Western Japan

open access: yesSpecies Diversity
An adult female of Argulus coregoni Thorell, 1864 was collected from the operculum of a freshwater minnow Opsariichthys platypus (Temminck and Schlegel, 1846) (Cypriniformes: Xenocyprididae) at 15 m elevation in a stream in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu ...

Cold-storage of Piezodorus guildinii (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) eggs for rearing Telenomus podisi (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Piezodorus guildinii (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) is an important soybean pest, and one of its main natural enemies is Telenomus podisi (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae).
