Integrated Approach for Prediction of Hot Tearing [PDF]
Shrinkage, imposed strain rate, and (lack of) feeding are considered the main factors that determine cavity formation or the formation of hot tears. A hot-tearing model is proposed that will combine a macroscopic description of the casting process and a microscopic model.

Hot tearing susceptibility of binary Mg–Y alloy castings [PDF]
Abstract The influence of Y content on the hot tearing susceptibility (HTS) of binary Mg–Y alloys has been predicted using thermodynamic calculations based on Clyne and Davies model. The calculated results are compared with experimental results determined using a constrained rod casting (CRC) apparatus with a load cell and data acquisition system ...

In large hot tokamaks like JET, the width of the reconnecting layer for resistive modes is determined by semi-collisional electron dynamics and is much less than the ion Larmor radius.

Hot Tearing Evaluation of Al - Based Alloys [PDF]
Hot tearing during solidification of aluminium alloys castings can be a serious problem. This phenomenon is well known but still insufficiently investigated. Hot tearing occurs in form of irregular cracks in metal castings that develop during solidification and cooling (typically while the casting is still inside the mold or die cavity).

Cleaved end-face quality of microstructured polymer optical fibres [PDF]
The cutting of a microstructured polymer optical fibre to form an optical end-face is studied. The effect of the temperature and speed of the cutting blade on the end-face is qualitatively assessed and it is found that for fibres at temperatures in the ...
