An algebraic approach to Hough transforms

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 2012
The main purpose of this paper is to lay the foundations of a general theory which encompasses the features of the classical Hough transform and extend them to general algebraic objects such as affine schemes. The main motivation comes from problems of detection of special shapes in medical and astronomical images.

Combining universal‐stage, backscatter electron imaging and electron backscatter diffraction for improved indexing of planar microstructures in quartz and plagioclase

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Quartz and feldspar commonly develop planar microstructures due to shock metamorphism. These are generally investigated and indexed (identifying the crystallographic orientation along which they developed) using a universal stage (U‐stage) on a petrographic microscope.

Multi-Stage Hough Space Calculation for Lane Markings Detection via IMU and Vision Fusion

open access: yesSensors, 2019
It is challenging to achieve robust lane detection based on a single frame, particularly when complicated driving scenarios are present. A novel approach based on multiple frames is proposed in this paper by taking advantage of the fusion of vision and ...

Hough Transform for Line Detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009

Process and Dynamics in AI and Language Use

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract In this volumed, Randall Beer and Joanna Rączaszek‐Leonardi have opened an important discussion of what is further needed to enhance the reach of dynamical approaches to cognition. Focusing on issues concerning the nature of language and developments in language technology, we have attempted, in this brief contribution, to place their ...

Detection of Airport Runway Edges using Line Detection Techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Airport runway detection is a vital aspect for both military and commercial applications. An algorithm to extract runway edges based on edge detection and line detection techniques is discussed.

Disarticulations in Naples: Cultural political ecology, the green transition, and labour unrest at a Whirlpool factory

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of British Geographers, EarlyView.
Abstract This article develops a cultural political ecology approach to disarticulations and labour unrest. The reference point for analysis is a struggle at a Whirlpool factory in Naples that the company announced would close in 2019, six months after signing an agreement with the Italian government, including a multi‐million investment plan.

The Hough Transform and Uncertainity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The paper deals with the generalisations of the Hough Transform making it the mean for analysing uncertainty. Some results related Hough Transform for Euclidean spaces are represented.

The Hough transform

open access: yesJournal of Functional Programming, 2011
Suppose you are given a number of points in a plane and want to have those lines that each contain a large number of the given points. The Hough transform is a computerized procedure for that task. It was invented by Paul Hough (1962), originally to find the trajectories of subatomic particles in a bubble chamber, and it has even been patented ...

Identifying music documents in a collection of images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Digital libraries and search engines are now well-equipped to find images of documents based on queries. Many images of music scores are now available, often mixed up with textual documents and images.
