An overview of the postcranial osteology of caecilians (Gymnophiona, Lissamphibia). [PDF]
Abstract Caecilians comprise a relatively small (~220 species) group (Gymnophiona) of snake‐like or worm‐like, mostly tropical amphibians. Most adult caecilians are fossorial, although some species may live in aquatic or semi‐aquatic environments, either as larvae or adults.

Hourglass Worm Gears Designed to Concentrate Surface Normals
To avoid the influence of small displacement of gear axes under load, the authors propose that all contact normals of a tooth surface should be at right angles to the direction of the small displacement induced at each contact point under load. On the basis of this state of surface normals, a few methods of tooth surface generation have been devised ...

What to compare and how: Comparative transcriptomics for Evo-Devo. [PDF]
Evolutionary developmental biology has grown historically from the capacity to relate patterns of evolution in anatomy to patterns of evolution of expression of specific genes, whether between very distantly related species, or very closely related ...

A Study on the Grinding of the Hourglass Worm Wheel.
The high performance of the hourglass worm gearing is well known among all types of worm gearings, especially after the developement of HEDCON【○!R】 worm gear reducer. Despite its high performance, the difficulty in manufacturing the hob is one of the obstacles of production and it has been one of the themes of study.

BAR superfamily proteins have a banana-shaped domain that causes the local bending of lipid membranes. We study as to how such a local anisotropic curvature induces effective interaction between proteins and changes the global shape of vesicles and ...

Cell Segmentation Beyond 2D—A Review of the State‐of‐the‐Art
Cell segmentation underpins many biological image analysis tasks, yet most deep learning methods remain limited to 2D despite the inherently 3D nature of cellular processes. This review surveys segmentation approaches beyond 2D, comparing 2.5D and fully 3D methods, analyzing 31 models and 32 volumetric datasets, and introducing a unified reference ...

A Study on the Hourglass Wormgearing Manufactured by a Pinion Cutter.
Abstract A method to obtain the higher productivity of hourglass worm gearing with high performance is developed. For this purpose, a method for manufacturing the worm by a pinion cutter is developed, along with a method for analyzing how the cutting blades generate the worm tooth surface.
