Efficacy of insect larval meal to replace fish meal in juvenile barramundi, Lates calcarifer reared in freshwater [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The present experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of dietary protein from black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens, larval meal (BSFL) to replace fish meal (FM) protein in juvenile barramundi, Lates calcarifer.

The phytochemical composition of Melia volkensii and its potential for insect pest management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Due to potential health and environmental risks of synthetic pesticides, coupled with their non-selectivity and pest resistance, there has been increasing demand for safer and biodegradable alternatives for insect pest management.

Genes from Carboxypeptidase A, glutathione S-transferase, and cytochrome b families were found involved in lead transport in insect Musca domestica

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2022
Lead (Pb) is a typical toxic contamination source all over the world. In this research, larvae of the housefly (Musca domestica) were fed a Pb-contaminated diet at different Pb doses of 0, 20 and 5000 mg/kg. RNA sequencing was used to identify genes that

Pig manure treatment with housefly (Musca domestica) rearing – an environmental life cycle assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The largest portion of a product’s environmental impacts and costs of manufacturing and use results from decisions taken in the conceptual design phase long before its market entry.

Investigations on Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae): larval infestation on the tomato cultivated in open field and evaluation of five essential oils against larvae in laboratory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The tomato miner Tuta absoluta Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is a Neotropical species, which cause serious damages to tomato in spread areas. It appeared in 2008 in Italy, where it seriously threatened tomato production both in greenhouse and open ...

Regulation of the juvenile hormone titre in the Colorado potato beetle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
Three main topics were investigated in regulation of the titre of juvenile hormone in haemolymph of the Colorado potato beetle ( Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say): enzymic breakdown of the hormone; binding and protection of the hormone by carrier proteins ...

Alternative Protein Sources in Poultry and Pig Nutrition—A Review

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Proteins are an essential nutrient for the viability of all animals, enabling organisms to grow, regenerate and defend themselves against pathogenic organisms. Soybean and soybean‐based materials are commonly used to supplement protein in animal nutrition.

Antagonistic effect of the beneficial bacterium Enterobacter hormaechei against the heavy metal Cu2+ in housefly larvae

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Vermicomposting via housefly larvae can be used to efficiently treat manure and regenerate biofertilizer; however, the uptake of heavy metals could negatively influence the growth and development of larvae.

Full‐length coding sequence analysis of the voltage‐gated sodium channel and acetylcholinesterase genes reveals target‐site mutations and acetylcholinesterase gene duplication in housefly (Musca domestica) populations in Japanese livestock barns

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
We simultaneously analysed insecticide resistance mutations in VGSC and AChE using NGS and hybridization probe capture in houseflies collected from livestock facilities for the first time. Resistance mutations in both VGSC and AChE were detected in most wild populations, suggesting widespread distribution of resistance genes.
