Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

Innovative approaches to building housing system resilience: a focus on the Australian social and affordable housing system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Housing is a complex, integrated network of social and economic infrastructure. Improving the overall provision, suitability and socio-economic resilience of our housing system is needed. This requires new typologies to accommodate changing demographics,

Morphometric Traits, Serum Chemistry and Antibody Response of Three Chicken Genotypes under Free-Range, Semi-Intensive and Intensive Housing Systems

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Poultry Science, 2019
The present study evaluated the effect of housing system on the morphometrics, serum chemistry and antibody response of dual-purpose chicken genotypes. A total of 156 pullets and 39 cockerels were randomly picked from 18 treatment block groups (3 housing

Paclitaxel induces NM2‐dependent cellular contraction through GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and RhoA/ROCK activation in cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Taxanes are widely used chemotherapeutics whose effects on cellular mechanics remain poorly understood. We show that paclitaxel induces rapid cellular contraction by promoting GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and non‐muscle myosin II activation through RhoA/ROCK.

Bridging the gap: a genetically validated avian chorioallantoic membrane platform for investigation of spontaneous circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established the avian chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay as a scalable in vivo model for studying circulating tumor cells (CTCs). Human gastrointestinal tumors spontaneously released genetically validated CTCs that were detected across multiple platforms, demonstrating that the CAM model provides an accessible tool for investigating early cancer ...

Poultry Welfare: Future Directions and Challenges?

open access: yesMeat and Muscle Biology, 2020
The emphasis on poultry welfare has changed dramatically over the past 2 to 3 decades, and as a result, the quality of life of broilers, laying hens, and turkeys has improved. However, some changes may come with unintended consequences.
