Reflection About the Ancient Emergence of HTLV-2 Infection

AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses, 2022
During millions of years, viruses have emerged and reemerged, with imbalance of photogenicity and transmissivity overtime. This letter describes that sometimes the nomenclature is uncertain what may actually happen during retrovirus evolution nowadays.

Molecular epidemiology of HTLV-2 infection among intravenous drug users in Spain

Journal of Clinical Virology, 2005
HTLV-2 infection is prevalent among intravenous drug users (IDUs), which often are coinfected with HIV-1. Two main subtypes, HTLV-2a and -2b, have been described among European IDUs, with a characteristically geographic distribution: IIa in northern Europe and IIb in the south.

Rétrovirus humains HTLV-1 et HTLV-2

EMC - Maladies infectieuses, 2004

FISIOPATOLOGIA E EPIDEMIOLOGIA DO HTLV-1 E HTLV-2: UMA REVISÃO SISTEMÁTICA

REVISTA FIMCA, 2022

Hematologic hints of HTLV-2 in US blood donors

Blood, 2008
The HOST investigators have maintained a multiregional and longitudinal survey of donors infected with HTLV-I and HTLV-II for over 14 years. The survey has provided extremely valuable information regarding the long-term consequences of asymptomatic infection with HTLV-I or HTLV-II.[1][1],[2][2 ...

Human Lymphotropic Viruses: HTLV-1 and HTLV-2

2016
Human T-cell lymphotropic virus types 1 and 2 (HTLV-1 and HTLV-2) and the more recently recognized HTLV-3 and HTLV-4 are human retroviruses of the genus Deltaretrovirus originally derived from closely related simian viruses. Proviral DNA is integrated in the host genome and propagated by lymphocytic division with only a minimal production of infectious

Humane T-lymphotrope Viren HTLV-1, HTLV-2

2009

NK cells constitute a major reservoir of HTLV‐2 infection in vivo

The FASEB Journal, 2008
HTLV‐2 is a deltaretrovirus, possibly associated with neurological manifestations. Initially believed to be restricted to CD8+ lymphocytes, the virus has been shown to infect also CD4+ T‐cells and B cells. Here we show for the first time that HTLV‐2 also infects NK cells in vivo .

Long Terminal Repeat Sequence Analysis of HTLV-2 Molecular Variants Identified in Southern Brazil

AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses, 2010
In Brazil, human T-lymphotropic virus type 2 (HTLV-2) is endemic in Amerindians and epidemic in intravenous drug users (IDUs). The long terminal repeat (LTR) is the most divergent genomic region of HTLV-2, therefore useful to characterize subtypes. Nucleotide sequence and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis of LTR genomic segments ...

Evaluation of the New Multi-HTLV Serological Assay: Improvement for HTLV-2 Detection

AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses
Despite the accuracy of confirmatory tests for the diagnosis of human T cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV), inconclusive or false-negative results still occur when diagnosing human T cell lymphotropic virus type 2 (HTLV-2)-positive patients. The goal of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity and accuracy of a confirmatory immunoassay, the Multi-HTLV ...
