Air attenuation of high power XFEL beams

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
The transmission of air, which is used to contain X‐ray beams for radiation safety, is observed to significantly increase with X‐ray power. The Linac Coherent Light Source II, a high‐repetition‐rate X‐ray free‐electron laser (FEL), produces high average power as well as high peak power.

X‐ray fluorescence microscopy exposure estimates using a single excitation energy

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
We present calculations on the number of illuminating photons per pixel required for elemental detection using X‐ray fluorescence, even with far‐from‐threshold excitation.Scanning fluorescence X‐ray microscopy is widely used for quantitative mapping of elemental concentrations, including in studies of essential but low‐concentration metals in cells ...

High‐flux, moderate‐bandwidth, high‐energy X‐rays from lapped Si(111) crystals in a double‐crystal monochromator

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
Lapped Si(111) crystals in a double‐crystal monochromator provide high‐flux, spectrally pure, and moderate‐bandwidth X‐ray beams at 100 keV, offering a robust and cost‐effective alternative to perfect‐crystal and multilayer optics.Lapping the surfaces of Si(111) crystals in a double‐crystal monochromator significantly increases the intensity of high ...

Wavelength–angle characterization of high‐energy X‐ray beams from lapped Si(111) double‐crystal monochromators using rocking‐curve tomography

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
A computed‐tomography method using full‐rotation rocking curves is developed to characterize 100 keV X‐ray beams from lapped Si(111) crystals, revealing systematic wavelength broadening while maintaining constant angular divergence in DuMond space.Lapping the surfaces of Si(111) crystals in a double‐crystal monochromator (DCM) has recently been shown ...

Fluorescent‐target imaging and real‐time beam diagnostics at the High Energy Photon Source

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
A fluorescent‐target imaging and real‐time beam diagnostic platform has been developed for the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS), integrating synchronized multi‐camera acquisition within the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS) areaDetector framework, online beam‐parameter extraction, and Mamba Data Worker enabled data management ...
