The Human Takes It All: Humanlike Synthesized Voices Are Perceived as Less Eerie and More Likable. Evidence From a Subjective Ratings Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurorobotics, 2020
Background: The increasing involvement of social robots in human lives raises the question as to how humans perceive social robots. Little is known about human perception of synthesized voices.Aim: To investigate which synthesized voice parameters ...

Generating human-like motion for robots [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Journal of Robotics Research, 2013
Action prediction and fluidity are key elements of human–robot teamwork. If a robot’s actions are hard to understand, it can impede fluid human–robot interaction. Our goal is to improve the clarity of robot motion by making it more human-like. We present an algorithm that autonomously synthesizes human-like variants of an input motion.

Prevalence of 21 Physician‐Defined Severe Toxicities Following Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Treatment: Australian Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common pediatric cancer, with an overall survival now surpassing 90% in developed countries. However, treatments are not without adverse effects. In this study, we apply the severe toxicity‐free survival (STFS) framework to determine the prevalence of 21 physician‐defined severe ...

The human likeness dimension of the "uncanny valley hypothesis": behavioural and functional MRI findings.

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2011
The uncanny valley hypothesis (Mori, 1970) predicts differential experience of negative and positive affect as a function of human likeness. Affective experience of realistic humanlike robots and computer-generated characters (avatars) dominates uncanny ...
