A mixed finite element method for nearly incompressible multiple-network poroelasticity

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, we present and analyze a new mixed finite element formulation of a general family of quasi-static multiple-network poroelasticity (MPET) equations.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The Behavioral Biology of Teams: Multidisciplinary Contributions to Social Dynamics in Isolated, Confined, and Extreme Environments

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2019
Teams in isolated, confined, and extreme (ICE) environments face many risks to behavioral health, social dynamics, and team performance. Complex long-duration ICE operational settings such as spaceflight and military deployments are largely closed ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Improving Aquaculture Worker Safety: A Data-Driven FTA Approach with Policy Implications

open access: yesFishes
Worker safety has been relatively overlooked in the rapidly growing aquaculture industry. To address this gap, industrial accident compensation insurance data—mainly from floating cage and seaweed farming—were analyzed to quantify accident types and ...

Articulation(s) of Culture(s): Mobilizing knowledge, ecological justice, and media convergence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper draws on articulation(s) as a multi-method countermethodology in the design of educational research. We use this form of critical\ud inquiry to examine ecological literacies and digital epistemologies associated with\ud Dow’s 2006 worldwide ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Pressure-induced quantum critical behavior in LaFeAsO1-xHx studied via NMR

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
LaFeAsO1-xHx is a prototypical iron-based superconductor. However, its phase diagram presents unique properties compared to conventional iron-based superconductors: (1) the superconducting phase is sandwiched between two antiferromagnetic (AF) phases ...
