Increased Fat-Free Body Mass and No Adverse Effects on Blood Lipid Concentrations 4 Weeks after Additional Meat Consumption in Comparison with an Exclusion of Meat in the Diet of Young Healthy Women

open access: yesJournal of Nutrition and Metabolism, 2011
Aims. To investigate whether changes of meat consumption can affect body composition and laboratory parameters in healthy, normal weight, young women without the aim to reduce body weight. Research Design and Methods.

Energy Constraints on Human Health

open access: yesTrends in Endocrinology & Metabolism
Evolved limits to the human energy budget force the body-brain system to operate an economy of energy. To survive and thrive, an organism’s limited internal energetic resources are dynamically reallocated by energy constraints that force trade-offs from organelle-to-organism.

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Effects of Mechanical Perturbation Magnitude on Human Gait Entrainment

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
Gait entrainment is a relatively new robot-aided rehabilitation approach, and its underlying mechanisms remain underexplored. Investigating how different periodic perturbation parameters influence entrainment characteristics could help bridge this ...

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

Synergistic effects of crystal habit and confining pressure on the compressive mechanical behavior of crystalline rock: a grain-based modeling analysis

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study investigates the synergistic effects of crystal habit and confining pressure on the compressive mechanical behavior of crystalline rocks using a grain-based model implemented in the Universal Distinct Element Code.
