Human enhancement technologies and the arguments for cosmopolitanism

open access: yesEnrahonar: Quaderns de Filosofia, 2023
According to political minimalism, a debate is considered political when it revolves around the question “What shall we do?” This account suggests that certain issues related to human enhancement technologies (HETs), which have traditionally been ...

Cadmium trapping by C60 and B-, Si-, and N-doped C60 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The removal of heavy metals from the environment has attracted considerable attention as they are toxic and non-biodegradable or destroyable. To minimize their hazard, they should be removed through either physical or chemical capture. Cadmium is a heavy

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Quantitative Measurement of Rotation in Phalangeal Fracture Malunion Using Computed Tomography Imaging—“Linkage Simulation”

open access: yesDiagnostics
Malunion of thumb and finger fractures causes problems in the cosmetic and functional aspects of the hand. Malunion of phalangeal fractures usually manifests as a combination of rotational deformities in the coronal, sagittal, and transverse planes, and ...

Artistic Enhancement. Literature and Film as Mirror and Means of Human Enhancement

open access: yesActa Universitatis Lodziensis: Folia Philosophica, 2018
Human enhancement affects all members of society and is thus closely linked to issues of social justice: up to now, the promises and perils of enhancement are usually only known to, and thus used, by few members of society.

Dialogue Games for Crosslingual Communication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We describe a novel approach to crosslingual dialogue that supports highly accurate communication of semantically complex content between people who do not speak the same language. The approach is introduced through an implemented application that covers

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
