Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

DMR-YOLO: An Improved Wind Turbine Blade Surface Damage Detection Method Based on YOLOv8

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Wind turbine blades (WTBs) are inevitably exposed to harsh environmental conditions, leading to surface damages such as cracks and corrosion that compromise power generation efficiency.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

A framework for e-learning: a blended solution?: current developments in technology-assisted education [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper describes a Framework for e-Learning and presents the findings of a study investigating whether the use of Blended Learning can fulfill or at least accommodate some of the human requirements presently neglected by current e-Learning systems ...

Inhibiting the inhibition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The precedence effect describes the phenomenon whereby echoes are spatially fused to the location of an initial sound by selectively suppressing the directional information of lagging sounds (echo suppression).

The theological ethics of human enhancement: Genetic engineering, robotics and nanotechnology

open access: yesIn die Skriflig/In Luce Verbi, 2018
The recent advances made by biotechnology have been swift and sundry. Technological developments seem to happen sooner than they can be ethically reflected upon.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Lateral elbow magnetic resonance imaging findings in patients without pain complaints

open access: yesJPRAS Open
Summary: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can help evaluate lateral epicondylitis; however, abnormal findings on MRI are not always consistent with the symptoms.
