Herpes Zoster and Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1992The interaction of herpes zoster and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was evaluated in a cohort study of 287 homosexual men with well-defined dates of HIV seroconversion and 499 HIV-seronegative homosexual men. The incidence of herpes zoster was significantly higher among HIV-seropositive men (29.4 cases/1000 person-years) than among HIV ...

The Human Herpes-Virus Proteases
2000Viruses within the herpes-virus family are identified based primarily on morphology, as all herpes viruses contain a linear double-stranded DNA genome within an icosadeltahedral capsid, surrounded by a tegument and enclosed within a viral envelope.

Photoreactivation of herpes simplex virus in human fibroblasts
Nature, 1975WHEN DNA is treated with ultraviolet light (220–300 nm) cyclobutyl pyrimidine dimers are produced between adjacent pyrimidines on a strand of DNA1. These dimers are a major cause of mutations and death in simple organisms after ultraviolet-irradiation1, and they have been implicated in the induction of skin cancer in man2,3.

Prevalence of Cytomegalovirus and Herpes Simplex Virus in Human Semen
Journal of Urology, 1983Cytomegalovirus was isolated from semen in 4 of 170 males seeking evaluation at the Reproductive Medicine Clinic at Prince Henry's Hospital, and from 1 of 40 healthy university students. All initial isolates were from specimens with abnormal semen analysis (P < 0.01). Herpes simplex virus was not isolated from any sample.

Human herpesvirus‐6: the latest human herpes virus
Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 1991Human herpesvirus‐6 (HHV‐6) was first isolated in 1986 from peripheral blood leukocytes of patients with lymphoproliferative disorders. Although HHV‐6 is distinct from the other human herpes viruses, DNA studies have revealed some genomic similarities with cytomegalovirus.

The biology of herpes simplex virus infection in humans
Survey of Ophthalmology, 1976Herpes simplex virus is a frequent cause of recurrent ocular, oral, genital or cutaneous eruptions in man. Lesions are highly localized and tend to recur at the same site. Among the most consistent factors provoking recurrence is root section of the trigeminal nerve.

Phagocytosis of herpes simplex virus by human granulocytes and monocytes
Archives of Virology, 1989Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) can mediate cytotoxic reactions against virus infected targets cells. We observed very efficient binding of PMN to HSV-infected fibroblasts when loaded with HSV-specific antibodies. Using electron microscopy, infected fibroblasts were found to be totally surrounded by PMN and the phagocytosis of virions and fragments ...

No association between Human herpes virus, Herpes virus Saimiri and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
Idiopathic interstitial pneumonias, 2019Herpes viruses have been thought to play a pathogenic role in the pathophysiology of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). We aimed to assess the presence of Human herpes viruses and of the simian herpes virus Saimiri in lung samples to evaluate their potential role in IPF. Methods: We performed real-time PCR assays to determine the presence of Human α-

Intrahost genetic variability of human herpes virus‐8
Journal of Medical Virology, 2013AbstractStudies were conducted to determine whether HHV‐8 hyperactivity could be the consequence of the propensity of the host to multiple HHV‐8 infection. The aim of the present work was to investigate HHV‐8 intrahost genetic variability. HHV‐8 subgenomic DNA was amplified by PCR from patients infected with HIV, health care workers (HCW) and bone ...
