Global Burden of Meconium‐Stained Amniotic Fluid: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Prevalence With Descriptive Synthesis of Determinants

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Meconium‐stained amniotic fluid (MSAF) is a common intrapartum finding associated with adverse perinatal outcomes. Comprehensive global estimates of its prevalence and determinants are lacking. This systematic review and meta‐analysis aimed to estimate the global pooled prevalence of MSAF and classify its associated factors.

Colorectal Cancer and Intestinal Protozoan Infections: Prevalence, Risk Factors, and Molecular Confirmation in Western Iran: A Descriptive Case‐Control Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Infections are recognized contributors to cancer development. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, socio‐demographic characteristics, and risk factors associated with intestinal protozoan parasites in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) in Western Iran.

Burden and Correlates of Multiple Chronic Infections and Their Associations With Cancer Incidence in Chinese Adults: A Large Case‐Cohort Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 5, Page 1282-1295, 1 September 2026.
While several oncogenic pathogens cause site‐specific cancers, uncertainties remain about many other chronic infections and combined pathogen effects, especially in non‐Western populations. Using a large case–cohort study nested within the China Kadoorie Biobank, the authors found that co‐infection was common, with a mean of 10 pathogens per individual.

DAMPs, PAMPs, and Alarmins: From Mechanism to Therapy

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
This review synthesizes the expanding biology of PAMPs and DAMPs, from their molecular sources and sensing mechanisms to regulatory networks that govern inflammation and homeostasis. Spanning from classical immune activation to trained immunity and interorgan communication, we highlight the interplay between PAMPs and DAMPs and their context‐dependent ...
