Abstract Background and Aim Varicella zoster virus (VZV) is a neurotropic herpesvirus. With improved access to molecular diagnostics, there is increasing recognition of VZV with central nervous system involvement. This study aimed to describe the demographic, clinical and treatment characteristics of patients admitted to an Australian tertiary hospital

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), comprising ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), is a recognised gastrointestinal disorder. Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) is implicated in IBD pathogenesis. Persistent exposure and active infections by MAP may contribute to the unsilencing of human endogenous retroviruses (HERV ...

ABSTRACT Salovirus is a genus within the family Caliciviridae, which contains a single member species, Salovirus nordlandense, also known as Atlantic salmon calicivirus (ASCV). While previous work has shown that ASCV can replicate in fish cell lines and establish systemic infection in vivo, its exact role in disease remains unclear and very little is ...

Human herpesvirus latency and fatigue
Human herpesvirus (HHV)-6 and HHV-7 establish life-long latency, a hallmark of herpesviruses, reactivate frequently, and are shed in saliva. To investigate the viral reactivation, we have identified the latency-associated transcripts of HHV-6, and have revealed the partial mechanism of HHV-6 reactivation.

Photodynamic therapy of cancer‐associated infections
Pathogens can be involved in tumor initiation, promotion and progression through different mechanisms, and their treatment can prevent new cancer cases, improve outcomes, and revert poor‐prognostic phenotypes. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) successfully treats different types of cancers and infections, and, therefore, has a unique potential to address ...

Infections Management in the Lung Transplant Setting in Italy: A Web‐Survey
A web survey has revealed significant variation in infection management practices across Italian lung transplant centers. These differences encompass key aspects of infection prevention and control, including antibiotic protocols and cytomegalovirus prophylaxis, underscoring a lack of consistency in fundamental strategies.

ABSTRACT Introduction Nonhuman primates (NHPs) can transmit zoonotic diseases to humans because of their close genetic relationship, facilitating the cross‐species transmission of certain pathogens. In Thailand, Macaca is the most common NHP genus and their inhabits area are in close proximity of human, particularly in urban and suburban areas, where ...

Background. Human herpesvirus 6 belongs to betaherpesviruses. This is a lymphotropic virus which is widely spread in a population. The most frequent way of virus transmission is by saliva. For this reason the first contact usally occurs early in a childhood period. Clinical manifestation might be expressed as exanthem subitum or roseola infantum.

What's new? While estrogens, obesity, and alcohol are recognized risk factors for breast cancer, a viral hypothesis has been suggested based on the murine model of Mouse Mammary Tumor Virus (MMTV)‐induced mammary tumors. This study analyzed sequences of the human homolog of MMTV across human breast carcinoma histotypes, detecting the virus in all types
