Utility of BioFire FilmArray Pneumonia Panel Plus in a High‐Risk Cohort: Children Post Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pulmonary complications due to infection contribute significantly to post‐haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HCT) morbidity and mortality. Standard microbiological investigations, when performed on bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, can take days to weeks to confirm a diagnosis.

Clinical characteristics and risk factors of severe bocavirus‐positive pneumonia in children and a literature review

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
The study explored the clinical characteristics and risk factors of HBoV‐positive severe pneumonia in children. These findings indicate that HBoV can be identified in respiratory samples from children with severe pneumonia, denoting its role as a viral pathogen in hospitalized children with this condition.

Respiratory admissions and impact of COVID‐19 lockdowns for children with severe cerebral palsy

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
In a population cohort of children with severe cerebral palsy, there was a reduced frequency of hospitalization for respiratory illness during periods of restricted social contact, implemented to reduce transmission of COVID‐19. This mirrored trends in the wider population and underlines the importance of community viral transmission in these children.

Coupling wastewater‐based epidemiology with data‐driven machine learning for managing public health risks

open access: yesRisk Analysis, EarlyView.
Abstract Traditional health surveillance methods play a critical role in public health safety but are limited by the data collection speed, coverage, and resource requirements. Wastewater‐based epidemiology (WBE) has emerged as a cost‐effective and rapid tool for detecting infectious diseases through sewage analysis of disease biomarkers.
