Establishing a novel community-focussed lactation support service: a descriptive case series

open access: yesInternational Breastfeeding Journal, 2022
Background Although breastfeeding is widely acknowledged as protecting both infant and maternal health postnatally, a partial or complete shortfall of maternal milk can occur for a range of reasons.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Enhanced versus standard fortification of pasteurized donor human milk for growth in very low birth weight infants: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
IntroductionVery-low-birthweight (VLBW) infants on pasteurized donor human milk (PDHM) have poorer growth compared to infants on fortified mother's milk, suggesting that standard fortification methods for PDHM are inadequate.MethodsWe designed a ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Receiving screened donor human milk as part of a community‐based lactation support programme reduces parental symptoms of anxiety and depression

open access: yesMaternal and Child Nutrition
Infant feeding decisions and maternal mental health are closely tied. Donor human milk (DHM) protects premature infant health and development and can reduce hospital stays.

Bovine milk with variant β-casein types on immunological mediated intestinal changes and gut health of mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
Dietary proteins provide bioactive peptides, which are important for host gastrointestinal functions. We hypothesized that A2-type β-casein could provide gastrointestinal benefits and improve the immune and gut health.

Paroxetine in human milk [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1999
Aims  The primary aims of the study were to estimate the exposure of infants to paroxetine via breast milk and to determine the maternal milk:plasma ratio (M/P) of paroxetine. Secondary aims were to compare single point and area under the curve (AUC) estimates of M/P, to assess variability of M/P in fore and hind milk, and to ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.
