Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Pressure mapping of medical compression bandages used for venous leg ulcer treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Chronic leg ulcers affect 1% of the adult population in the developed countries. The majority of leg ulcers are due to venous disease. The impact of venous ulcers on the quality of life is significant, and it costs the NHS £300 − 600m annually.

Threshold Responses of Bird Communities to Human Footprint: Testing the Intermediate Disturbance Hypothesis and Implications for Biodiversity Conservation

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Human activities have profoundly altered natural ecosystems, driving widespread biodiversity declines. Birds serve as key environmental health indicators and exhibit high sensitivity to such changes.

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Influence of probe pressure on human skin diffuse reflectance spectroscopy measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In a routine procedure for collecting human skin spectra using fiber optic diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, the fiber optic probe is put gently in contact with the skin surface.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Can interface conditions be modified by support surfaces to minimise the risk of pressure ulcer development?

open access: yes, 2011
PhDThe characteristics of a patient support interface can influence the susceptibility of subjects, particularly there who are immobilised and insensate, to pressure ulcer development.
