[The hungry bone syndrome--an update].

Therapeutische Umschau. Revue therapeutique, 2007
The Hungry Bone Syndrome (HBS) represents an important cause of prolonged hypocalcemia after parathyreoidectomy (PTX) due to primary, secondary or tertiary hyperparathyreoidism. The sudden postoperative withdrawal of parathyroid hormone (PTH) induces a stop in osteoclastic bone resorption without affecting the osteoblastic activity.

Cinacalcet-induced hungry bone syndrome.

Seminars in dialysis, 2007
Cinacalcet is a type II calcimimetic approved for treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with end-stage renal disease. It is generally well tolerated with the most common side effects being nausea and vomiting. Symptomatic hypocalcemia is rare, and persistent hypocalcemia has not been reported to date. We present a case of a 66-year-old

Bone scintigraphy in hungry bone syndrome following parathyroidectomy.

Journal of nuclear medicine : official publication, Society of Nuclear Medicine, 1996
A 59-yr-old man with chronic renal failure was admitted for evaluation of generalized skeletal pain and frontal bone mass, which was lytic on radiography. Bone scintigraphy demonstrated several foci of moderately increased uptake, without involvement of the skull mass. Radiographs of these lesions were compatible with brown tumors.

Intraperitoneal phosphate administration in hungry bone syndrome.

Clinical nephrology, 1991
Hypophosphatemia complicating parathyroidectomy for secondary hyperparathyroidism in renal failure is usually corrected by the oral or intravenous routes. We present a case in which those methods of treatment were not possible, and the phosphate was administered intraperitoneally.

Hungry bone syndrome following parathyroidectomy.

ANNA journal, 1998
Hyperparathyroid-associated bone disease is known to affect quality of life and contribute to premature morbidity in the end stage renal disease (ESRD) population. Failure to adequately suppress parathyroid hormone secretion with medical management often warrants parathyroidectomy. Hypocalcemia frequently occurs after parathyroidectomy.

[Hungry-bone syndrome: a nearly-forgotten disease].

Schweizerische medizinische Wochenschrift, 1997
We present a 68-year-old female patient with hyperparathyroidism of many years' standing due to nodular hyperplasia of the parathyroid glands. After parathyroidectomy the patient developed profound hypocalcemia of long duration and was found to have marked cystic bone lesions.

Hungry bone syndrome following parathyroidectomy - a case report

Endocrine Abstracts
One of the main causes of protracted, severe hypocalcemia after parathyroidectomy is hungry bone syndrome (HBS). We report the case of a 40-year-old man who was first admitted to the Endocrinology department of Zemun Clinical Hospital (ZCH) in order to perform a workup for hypercalcemia. Further laboratory and imaging diagnostics indicated that a giant
