Dynamic Behaviour of Bubbles in Oil Under Electrothermal Ageing

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT During long‐term operation of converter transformers, the internal oil–pressboard insulation undergoes irreversible degradation. Partial discharge in the weakened insulation will cause the formation of a large number of bubbles in the insulating oil.

Type Tests for Hybrid HVDC Breakers: a Technical Feasible Solution

open access: yes, 2023
In the coming years, the use of the HVDC circuit breakers will become a necessity in the “grids of the future” (basically multi-terminal HVDC grids). An obliged step is to test such equipment before to install it on the grids.

Development of ± 550 kV DC GIS Basin Insulator

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The basin insulator is a core component of the insulation system for ± 550 kV gas‐insulated switchgear (GIS). This paper, using a finite element method for multi‐physics simulations of electric–thermal coupling, determines a geometry suitable for the industrial production of ± 550 kV GIS basin insulators.

Design and tests of reinforcement-learning-based optimal power flow solution generator

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2022
Optimal power flow (OPF) is a very traditional problem in the research field of power systems. In this paper, an OPF solution generator based on reinforcement learning (RL) is proposed. The solution process of OPF is modeled as a one-step Markov Decision

Configurations and earthing of HVDC grids [PDF]

open access: yes2013 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2013
HVDC grids are considered to be essential building blocks for the future upgrade of the existing AC power system and as a means to transport the expected massive amounts of renewable energy from remote sources to the load centers. HVDC systems exist for over 50 years, yet meshed DC grids do not exist so far.

A Novel Converter Transformer DAM‐LSTNet Vibration Generation Model for Data Imbalance Identification

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Converter transformer vibration failures, primarily because of winding and core vibrations, severely impact the safe operation of high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. These vibrations are influenced by voltage and current, and are transmitted through transformer oil and structural components to the tank. Current numerical models fail to

Mechanism of Damage and Micro‐Characterisation of Irradiation‐Induced Free Radicals on the Epoxy Insulation of the Bridge Arm Reactors at High Altitude

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Damage degradation of epoxy resin insulating materials by free radicals triggered by the ultraviolet irradiation environment at high altitude has become a key issue that restricts the reliability of the bridge arm reactor at high altitude.
