Mechanism of Damage and Micro‐Characterisation of Irradiation‐Induced Free Radicals on the Epoxy Insulation of the Bridge Arm Reactors at High Altitude

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Damage degradation of epoxy resin insulating materials by free radicals triggered by the ultraviolet irradiation environment at high altitude has become a key issue that restricts the reliability of the bridge arm reactor at high altitude.

Comprehensive Design and Experimental Validation of 30 kV Ultra‐Fast Flexible Controllable Arresters for HVDC Systems

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT To effectively suppress transient overvoltages in HVDC systems, the design and experimental validation of a multi‐module series controllable arrester are presented. The voltage‐limiting performance, series voltage equalisation capability, and robustness under fault conditions in high‐voltage scenarios require further research.

An Overview of High‐Temperature Superconducting Cables in DC Systems: Unlocking Potential for High‐Voltage DC Networks

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper provides an overview of high‐temperature superconducting (HTS) cables in DC systems, with a focus on their deployment in high‐voltage DC (HVDC) networks. The assessment of HTS cable properties—such as extremely low electrical resistance, high current‐carrying capacity and a compact geometry—and their comparison with those of ...

Coordinated DC Fault Ride‐Through Control for a Grid‐Forming Wind‐Storage System With VSC‐HVDC Integration Under Transmission Constraints

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 6, June 2026.
Due to complex wind farm conditions, a coordinated control system was designed. It manages DC power surges during AC faults by temporarily storing excess energy and regulating voltages. This strategy optimizes unbalanced power and enables effective fault recovery, resulting in minimal voltage fluctuations and superior performance.

Coordinated control of DC circuit breakers in multilink HVDC grid

open access: yesCSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems, 2021
High voltage DC grid is developing towards more terminals and larger transmission capacity, thus the requirements for DC circuit breakers (DCCB) will rise. The conventional methods only use the faulty line DCCB to withstand the fault stress, while this paper presents a coordination method of multiple DCCBs to protect the system.

Research on fast solid state DC breaker based on a natural current zero-crossing point

open access: yesJournal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy, 2014
The DC fault characteristics of voltage source converter based high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) systems are analyzed in this paper. The phenomenon whereby the capacitor on DC side discharges quickly during a DC fault contributes to a large short ...

Enhancing Hydrophobic Stability of Silicone Rubber Insulators Under High‐Voltage Direct Current Stress Through Optimised Nano‐Fumed Silica Surface Area: A Dynamic Drop Test Study

open access: yesHigh Voltage, Volume 11, Issue 3, Page 823-837, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The long‐term hydrophobic stability of silicone rubber (SiR) insulators is essential for their reliability in high‐voltage direct current (HVDC) applications. This study investigates the effect of nano‐silica fillers with varying specific surface areas (SSA = 120, 200 and 300 m2/g) and different concentrations of alumina trihydrate (ATH ...
