On Timely Channel Coding with Hybrid ARQ [PDF]

open access: yes2019 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), 2019
A status updating communication system is examined, in which a transmitter communicates with a receiver over a noisy channel. The goal is to realize timely delivery of fresh data over time, which is assessed by an age-of-information (AoI) metric. Channel coding is used to combat the channel errors, and feedback is sent to acknowledge updates' reception.

Shared Hybrid ARQ With Incremental Redundancy (SHARQ IR) in Overloaded MIMO Systems to Support Energy-Efficient Transmissions

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Multiple Input and Multiple Output is a technology through which data are transmitted over the channel through multiple antennas. However, during its deployment and implementation, some pragmatic issues arise such as interference, multipath fading and ...

Hybrid ARQ in Wireless Packetized Predictive Control [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Sensors Letters, 2020
Motivated by new wireless applications that rely on ultra-reliable low latency communications, while supporting the transmission of short packets, we introduce a method that reduces the wireless resources consumption for real-time control of physical systems.

Performance Analysis of Uplink Rate-Splitting Multiple Access With Hybrid ARQ [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2023
Rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) has attracted a lot of attention as a general and powerful multiple access scheme. In the uplink, instead of encoding the whole message into one stream, a user can split its message into two parts and encode them ...

Average age of information with hybrid ARQ under a resource constraint [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference, 2017
Scheduling the transmission of status updates over an error-prone communication channel is studied in order to minimize the long-term average age of information (AoI) at the destination under a constraint on the average number of transmissions at the ...

Hybrid-ARQ Protocols Based on Tornado Codes for the Packet Erasure Channel

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Communications, 2021
Lossless data transfer over communication networks has traditionally been achieved by means of ARQ protocols. However, the last ten years have seen an increasing interest in using erasure-correcting codes as an alternative, with the goal of reducing ...

Real-Time Remote Estimation With Hybrid ARQ in Wireless Networked Control [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2019
Real-time remote estimation is critical for mission-critical applications including industrial automation, smart grid and tactile Internet. In this paper, we propose a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ)-based real-time remote estimation framework for

A Cross-Layered Theoretical Model of IEEE 1901 Power-Line Communication Networks Considering Retransmission Protocols

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Power-line communication (PLC) is a promising communication technology of constructing IoT (internet of things) systems, and it employs IEEE 1901 as its medium access control (MAC) protocol. Current studies about IEEE 1901 MAC performance analysis do not
