Characteristic analysis and optimisation of an asymmetric‐primary axial‐flux hybrid‐excitation generator for vertical‐axis wind turbines

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, 2022
Axial‐flux wind generators have advantages of high ratio of generator diameter to generator length and high possibility of modular construction, which make them suitable for use in vertical‐axis wind turbines.

A new dual-ferrite–assisted hybrid reluctance machine with two-stage excitation for starter generator application

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2022
Reluctance machines with DC field coil in stator are a competitive candidate for starter generation application, due to the elimination of rare-earth permanent magnet (PM), robust structures, and controllable excitation.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Nonlinear Hybrid Piezoelectric and Electromagnetic Energy Harvesting Driven by Colored Excitation

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
It is well known that when excited by a stochastic base acceleration, the power absorbed by a nonlinear Duffing-type piezoelectric (PE) or electromagnetic (EM) energy harvester might not be increased effectively compared to a linear one.

Compact electrical generators for diesel driven generating sets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This thesis explores two approaches for converting rotating mechanical power from diesel engines into electrical power of fixed frequency and voltage. Advances in high energy permanent magnets and power electronics are enabling technologies that provide ...

The use of cement leftovers from the hollow of spun piles as an additive in self-compacting concrete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Spun piles have been used widely by developing countries, including Malaysia, to construct the foundation of most construction projects. A spun pile is a reinforced precast and prestressed concrete that is compacted in a mould through spinning compaction.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Improvement of power grid stability and load distribution using diesel excitation controller

open access: yesJournal of Mechatronics, Electrical Power, and Vehicular Technology, 2022
One of the requirements for controlling hybrid power systems is designing an appropriate excitation system, flexibility, protection, and coordination of all components to improve system stability.
