Hybrid optical amplifiers: Design and investigation

2014 12th IEEE International Conference on Solid-State and Integrated Circuit Technology (ICSICT), 2014
This paper proposes two scheme of hybrid fiber amplifiers with each using a single-wavelength pump laser diode at around 1495 nm. The hybrid amplifier is applied in a 100 km range for both unidirectional and bidirectional transmissions. A single-wavelength pump source is used to pump both the C band Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and L band Raman ...

Dynamically gain-flattened hybrid optical amplifier utilizing erbium doped fiber amplifier and semiconductor optical amplifier

24th European Conference on Optical Communication. ECOC '98 (IEEE Cat. No.98TH8398), 2002
We propose a hybrid optical amplifier utilizing two-stage configuration, a silica-based erbium doped fiber amplifier and a semiconductor optical amplifier. Hybrid optical amplifier have a gain excursion of less than 1 dB over the 27 nm (1534 nm-1561 nm) wavelength range, for the total input signal power of -10 dBm--15 dBm.

Hybrid L-Band Optical Fiber Amplifier Module with Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers and Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2004
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a new hybrid three-stage L-band fiber amplifier module composed of a semiconductor optical amplifier and two erbium-doped fiber amplifiers over the gain bandwidth of 1540 to 1600 nm. This proposed amplifier also provides a broadband amplified spontaneous emission light source.

Hybrid optical switch using passive polymer waveguides and semiconductor optical amplifiers

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2000
Optical switching can be performed by using optical amplifiers combined with a passive waveguiding network. Recently, most of the effort in optical amplifier switch modules have been focused on monolithic switches in which the entire device is fabricated on an InP substrate together with the semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA's).

Performance characteristics of dual-pumped hybrid EDFA/Raman optical amplifier

Applied Optics, 2015
This paper suggests a hybrid amplifier using an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and Raman amplifier (RA) with dual-pump configuration. This hybrid EDFA/RA optical amplifier (HOA) is dual pumped. The EDFA is forward biased with 980 nm while the RA is reverse biased with 1450 nm in the dual-pump configuration.
