Hybrid integration technologies for semiconductor lasers and optical amplifiers

LEOS 2000. 2000 IEEE Annual Meeting Conference Proceedings. 13th Annual Meeting. IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society 2000 Annual Meeting (Cat. No.00CH37080), 2002
The exponential increase in the demand for bandwidth requires the development of optoelectronic devices that are both cheap to produce and offer high levels of functionality. It has been shown by many groups that the use of mode expanders on devices such as semiconductor lasers can offer a route to achieving cost reduction by simplifying the coupling ...

Performance evaluation of different hybrid optical amplifiers for DWDM system

2016 IEEE Annual India Conference (INDICON), 2016
As the demand of carrying large information in optical fiber communication network increased, there came the need of some special devices in the network to accomplish this task. For this, hybrid configurations of optical amplifiers are designed that are capable of improving the performance of the system.

Multiple Pass Hybrid Optical Amplifier Configuration for DWDM Communication System

2019 International Conference on Intelligent Computing and Control Systems (ICCS), 2019
Future of optical communication lies in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and Hybrid Optical Amplifiers (HOA). This paper introduces a new configuration of hybrid amplifier which incorporates Double Pass amplification scheme in a multi-channel DWDM system. As the number of passes increases, gain achievement over short length of amplifier is

Hybrid transmissive optical star couplers with gain using fiber amplifiers

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1993
A hybrid transmissive star coupler incorporating fiber amplifiers for wavelength-division multiplexed/frequency-division multiplexed (WDM/FDM) networks is proposed. It is found that the total fiber length and conduit length required for this hybrid star coupler/network can be reduced tremendously compared with either the centralized or the distributed ...

Optical Amplifier Hybrid Devices for S-Band Telecommunications - A Comparison

Optical Amplifiers and Their Applications/Coherent Optical Technologies and Applications, 2006
Amplifier hybrids coupling different amplifier types are characterized and evaluated for application in S-band telecommunications. Combinations including a fiber-optic parametric gain module are also studied for S-C/L band wavelength conversion.

Multisection optical parametric–Raman hybrid amplifier for terabit+ WDM systems

Journal of Modern Optics, 2015
We demonstrate flat-gain wide bandwidth Raman-Fiber optical parametric hybrid amplifier for wavelength division multiplexed systems (WDM). Raman-parametric amplifiers exploit system non-linearities which are otherwise inevitable in evolving WDM systems.

Optimization of Hybrid Optical Amplifiers for Enhanced WDM Efficiency

The growing demand for high-speed optical communication presents challenges for Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks in maintaining signal quality over long distances. Traditional optical amplifiers, such as the Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA), Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA), and Raman amplifier, each have limitations; including ...

Hybrid phase-sensitive and phase-insensitive amplifiers for optical communication

2012 17th Opto-Electronics and Communications Conference, 2012
A phase-sensitive amplifier followed by a phase-insensitive one can have a noise figure well below 3dB. This can be used for reducing the detrimental nonlinear effects occurring in fiber optical parametric amplifiers for optical communication.
