Development of a Hybrid Propulsion System

SNAME Propellers '84 Symposium, 1984
For the propulsion of high speed vessels of the semi-displacement or planing type a propulsion system has been designed and tested at model scale which uses partially submerged controllable pitch propellers in semi-ducts for the high speed boost condition. For low speed cruising the same propellers operate fully wetted.

Hybrid solar and laser propulsion

SPIE Proceedings, 2002
Hybrid laser experiments have been conducted in a variety of high power/energy laser experiments: beat wave electron accelerators, rainbow and ignitor fusion, particle acceleration and double pulse laser propulsion schemes. Following our determination that the momentum coupling coefficient for burning targets is much higher than for cold targets, we ...

Trends in hybrid propulsion concepts

Proceedings of 14th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference EPE-PEMC 2010, 2010
Nowadays many different types of hybrid propulsion systems exist. For independent traction, i.e. automotive drive systems especially, energy storage of driving medium is essential. The main task of hybrid propulsion is to diminish or totally eliminate green house gas (GHG) emissions.

Hybrid propulsion transfers to the Moon

2012
This work analyzes special Earth-Moon transfers that make use of both chemical and solar electric propulsion. A first high-thrust, low-Isp impulse is used to place the spacecraft into an exterior-like low-energy transfer to the Moon, possibly performing a lunar gravity assist.

Hybrid electric chemical propulsion

21st Joint Propulsion Conference, 1985
Abstract : A spacecraft propulsion concept that uses a combination of electrical energy and chemical energy for thrust is explored using thermodynamic modeling calculations. The essence of this concept consists of adding a carefully chosen amount of O2 or F2 oxidizer to the propellant flow of a conventional H2 electrothermal thruster.

Propulsion system design of electric and hybrid vehicles

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 1997
There is a growing interest in electric and hybrid-electric vehicles due to environmental concerns. Efforts are directed toward developing an improved propulsion system for electric and hybrid-electric vehicles applications. This paper is aimed at developing the system design philosophies of electric and hybrid vehicle propulsion systems. The vehicles'

Preliminary pyrolysis and combustion study for the hybrid propulsion.

46th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2010
The hybrid propulsion can be of interest for civilian applications such as space tourism or small size launchers (1000 N thrust). The PRISME institute from the University of Orleans is working since 2007 on related activities. PRISME aims at studying numerically and experimentally a hybrid rocket engine and more specifically the chemical reactions ...

Hybrid Thermionic Space Reactors for Power and Propulsion

Nuclear Technology, 1994
A thermo-hydrodynamic-neutronic analysis is performed for a fast, uranium carbide (UC) fueled space-craft nuclear in-core thermionic reactor. The thermo-hydrodynamic analysis shows that a hybrid thermionic spacecraft nuclear reactor can be designed for both electricity generation and nuclear thermal propulsion purposes.
