Physicochemical Reinforcement Unlocks Sterilization‐Stable Anisotropic Hydrogels for Cell‐Compatible Mock Arteries

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In vitro arterial models offer ethical and robust alternatives for vascular research but require cytocompatible materials that replicate physiological mechanics. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels produced by directional freezing and salting‐out (PVA DFSO) are anisotropic yet lack stability for cell culture. Herein, methacrylated PVA (PVA‐MA)

Genetic studies on TGMS lines for development of superior two line rice hybrids

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2019
Development of desirable floral and out crossing related characters in TGMS lines plays a key role in two line rice hybrid programme. A set of six TGMS lines were raised during summer 2018 and observed under high temperature regime for floral ...

Functional Blood‐Brain Barrier Crossing by Biomimetic M13 Phage Vectors for Targeted Neuronal Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the M13 bacteriophage as a biomimetic nanovector capable of crossing in vitro models of the blood–brain barrier. By exploiting peculiar transcellular pathways, M13 avoids lysosomal degradation and preserves its structural integrity and functionality.

Genomic architecture and molecular mechanisms of hybrid sterility in mice. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Hybrid sterility is one of the reproductive isolation mechanisms restricting gene flow between the related species and leading to speciation. PR domain containing 9 (Prdm9), the only known vertebrate hybrid sterility gene, determines the sites of ...

Characterization of Prdm9 in equids and sterility in mules. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Prdm9 (Meisetz) is the first speciation gene discovered in vertebrates conferring reproductive isolation. This locus encodes a meiosis-specific histone H3 methyltransferase that specifies meiotic recombination hotspots during gametogenesis.

The role of Prdm9 in the house mouse hybrid sterility model

open access: yes, 2023
(English) Hybrid sterility is a phenomenon representing reproductive isolation between closely related species and thus assuring the process of speciation.

Atomic Layer Deposition Processes: Versatile Platforms for Engineering ZnO‐Chitosan Biointerfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Vapour phase metalation (VPM), multiplied pulsed vapour phase infiltration (MPI), and O2 plasma‑enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) tailor Zn–chitosan (Zn‑CS) films. PEALD improves wettability and biocompatibility. MPI enhances semiconductor behavior. Antiseptic selectivity: VPM → E. coli; MPI → H. pylori.

Pervasive antagonistic interactions among hybrid incompatibility loci. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2017
Species barriers, expressed as hybrid inviability and sterility, are often due to epistatic interactions between divergent loci from two lineages. Theoretical models indicate that the strength, direction, and complexity of these genetic interactions can ...

Testis in the Sterile Hybrid Duck [PDF]

open access: yesPathologia veterinaria, 1965
The histologic and histochemical characteristics of the testis and epididymis in normal and hybrid ducks are described. Granules are present in the cytoplasm of the spermatocytes in all ducks; however, the amount is much greater in the sterile hybrid birds. These granules stain PAS positive and are diastase resistant.
