Determination of Hydrated Phases of Nanosilica incorporated C3S and \b{eta}-C2S using Nanoindentation Technique [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Analysis of the mechanical properties of key phases of cementitious systems during hydration at the nanoscale is vital for a better understanding of the type and formation of key cement hydration phases. In this work, nanoindentation technique has been employed to calculate the volume fraction and elastic modulus of key hydrated phases, calcium ...

Investigation of Accelerated Hydration in Nanosilica Incorporated Tricalcium Silicate using THz Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The incorporation of nanosilica in cementitious systems helps in accelerating the cement hydration process and early-stage formation of the main hydration product, that is, calcium silicate hydrate. Nanosilica reacts with the other key hydration product, calcium hydroxide to form additional calcium silicate hydrate. In this work, Terahertz spectroscopy

Change of Hydration Patterns upon RNA Melting Probed by Excitations of Phosphate Backbone Vibrations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The water hydration shell has decisive impact on the structural and functional properties of RNA. Changes of RNA structure upon melting and in biochemical processes are accompanied by a change of hydration patterns, a process which is barely characterized.

On the global hydration kinetics of tricalcium silicate cement [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We reconsider a number of measurements for the overall hydration kinetics of tricalcium silicate pastes having an initial water to cement weight ratio close to 0.5. We find that the time dependent ratio of hydrated and unhydrated silica mole numbers can be well characterized by two power-laws in time, $x/(1-x)\sim (t/t_x)^\psi$.

Large-Scale Experimental Investigation of Hydrate-Based Carbon Dioxide Sequestration

open access: yesEnergies
Hydrate-based CO2 sequestration is a novel approach that can not only realize permanent CO2 sequestration but can also form an artificial cap to prevent its upward migration.

Experimental Investigation into the Combustion Characteristics of Propane Hydrates in Porous Media

open access: yesEnergies, 2015
The combustion characteristics of both pure propane hydrates and the mixtures of hydrates and quartz sands were investigated by combustion experiments. The flame propagation, flame appearance, burning time and temperature in different hydrate layers were

Large Slowdown of Water Dynamics at Stacked Phospholipid Membranes for Increasing Hydration Level: All-Atoms Molecular Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Water hydrating phospholipid membranes determine their stability and function, as well as their interaction with other molecules. In this article we study, using all-atom molecular dynamics simulations, the rotational and translational dynamical properties of water molecules confined in stacked phospholipid membranes at different levels of hydration ...
