The Critical Effect of Hydration on the Resonant Signatures of THz Biospectroscopy [PDF]
Here we present an original study of the effect of hydration on Terahertz absorption signatures in biomolecular (lactose monohydrate and biotin) and bioparticles( Bacillus thuringiensis and Bacillus cereus spores). We observe "read-shift" in center frequency with increasing hydration in all samples, consistent with Lorentzian-oscillator behavior.

Regulating Protein Immobilization During Cell‐Free Protein Synthesis in Hyaluronan Microgels
Bifunctional microgels carrying a linear DNA template and Ni2+‐activated NTA moieties are used as platform for cell‐free protein synthesis and in situ protein immobilization. By varying the concentration of NTA moieties in the microgels, the amount of GFP‐His immobilized inside the microgel and released to the microgel environment can be regulated ...

Dynamic in-situ imaging of methane hydrate formation and self-preservation [PDF]
We present the results of dynamic in-situ 3D X-ray imaging of methane hydrates microstructure during methane hydrate formation and decomposition in sand samples. Short scanning times and high resolution provided by synchrotron X-rays allowed for better understanding of water movement and different types of gas-hydrate formation.

Magnetic susceptibility study of hydrated and non-hydrated NaxCoO2-yH2O single crystals [PDF]
We have measured the magnetic susceptibility of single crystal samples of non-hydrated NaxCoO2 (x ~ 0.75, 0.67, 0.5, and 0.3) and hydrated Na0.3CoO2-yH2O (y ~ 0, 0.6, 1.3). Our measurements reveal considerable anisotropy between the susceptibilities with H||c and H||ab.

Curvature Dependence of Hydrophobic Hydration Dynamics
We investigate the curvature-dependence of water dynamics in the vicinity of hydrophobic spherical solutes using molecular dynamics simulations. For both, the lateral and perpendicular diffusivity as well as for H-bond kinetics of water in the first ...

Hydration Modeling of Calcium Sulphates [PDF]
The CEMHYD3D model has been extended at the University of Twente in the last ten years [1,2]. At present the cement hydration model is extended for the use of gypsum.

Hydrogel‐Based Capacitive Sensor Model for Ammonium Monitoring in Aquaculture
Traditional techniques for monitoring aquaculture water quality, particularly ammonium levels, harm fish. This work presents a novel capacitive sensor with an ionic hydrogel transducer to monitor ammonium concentration in real time based on the ammonium‐induced hydrogel dissociation and osmotic pressure. Monitoring aquaculture water quality, especially
