A Computational Approach for Biomimetic Design of Liver‐On‐A‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A biomimetic liver‐on‐a‐chip with antiparallel perfusion was designed using COMSOL‐guided simulation to replicate hepatic acinus transport. Full‐scale modelling revealed diffusion‐dominated, length‐dependent nutrient gradients and low‐shear conditions.

Regulating composite fouling detachability in reclaimed water distribution systems under electromagnetic field-assisted hydraulic flushing

open access: yesnpj Clean Water
Composite fouling remains a major operational challenge for reclaimed water distribution systems. Conventional hydraulic flushing (HF) often fails over the long term not simply because of the amount of fouling accumulated, but because the deposits ...

Fouling‐Free Inertial Microfluidic Cell Clarification for Lentivirus Manufacturing

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lentiviral vectors (LVVs) are widely used as gene‐delivery vehicles in cell and gene therapy, enabling stable integration of transgenes into target cells. However, efficient clarification of LVV harvest remains a major bottleneck in large‐scale manufacturing, as conventional depth filtration often results in significant product loss.

Circular Economy in the Management of Wastewater Treatment Plant: A Business Model Approach

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The water and wastewater management sector faces many challenges related to the implementation of a circular economy (CE). To date, sectoral CE solutions have focused mainly on technological innovations, with limited attention paid to social and economic aspects.

Development and Application of a Rope Core Hydraulic Closed-Core Mechanism for Loose and Broken Strata

open access: yesApplied Sciences
When employing the wire-line core drilling technology in loose strata, the core recovery rate is often low due to fragmented rock masses and the erosive effect of flushing fluids, severely affecting core quality and drilling efficiency.

Evaluation of Pervaporation and Nanofiltration Membranes for Water Recovery From Thermo‐Responsive Draw Solution

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Integrating thermo‐responsive draw solutions with suitable water‐recovery technologies could enable more efficient hybrid desalination. This study compares pervaporation and nanofiltration, revealing key trade‐offs between water productivity and polymer retention and providing guidance for future FO‐based brine treatment systems.

Surface hydration‐induced damage in tight oil‐bearing sandy conglomerate reservoirs

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A series of techniques such as X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive spectroscopy, conductivity tests, and infrared thermal imaging were used. The key findings are the identification of a two‐stage surface hydration process and the elucidation of the effects of various minerals and elements on the hydration process ...

Effects of Moringa oleifera-based pre-coagulation and hydraulic flushing on the reduction of submerged nanofiltration membrane fouling

open access: yesDesalination and Water Treatment
Membrane fouling is challenging for the direct nanofiltration (NF) treatment of surface water when pre-filtration is not performed. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of pre-coagulation using a natural coagulant, Moringa oleifera (MO), and ...

The impact of forced closure on proppant distribution of hydraulic fracturing in shale formations

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Research findings demonstrate that implementing forced closure within shale formations can remarkably mitigate proppant settlement, concurrently increasing the effective propped surface area from 29.74% to 38.68%. Abstract Forced closure is widely used in conventional oil and gas reservoirs to promote uniform proppant placement.

Climate Driven Water Table Changes and Their Influence on Liquefaction Response of Integral Bridges

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Integral abutment bridges (IABs) eliminate bearings and joints but transfer seismic demand directly into the surrounding soil, making their response highly sensitive to groundwater conditions and soil–structure interaction. This study presents a 60 g centrifuge testing programme on single‐span IABs designed to isolate the influence of water ...
