Three flat‐plate collectors with spiral and square coiled riser tubes were tested and it was found that the spiral type provides the best results with a thermal efficiency of 66.98% for a mass flow rate of 0.4 kg/min. Riser tube geometry is a key factor in optimizing flat‐plate collector output.

Physical modelling of macro‐roughness elements for river restoration showed that backwater rise depends mostly on the relative structure width and approaching flow Froude number, with only minor differences among designs. Using 16 flume experiments and 2D modeling, we show that large‐wood flow resistance is not a fixed property of wood porosity but varies systematically with flow condition, blockage and most strongly sediment‐shaped bed topography. The drag coefficient and Manning's n are interchangeable, but calibration is essential where scour occurs.
