RESIDUAL TURBIDITY IN HYDRAULIC JET FLOCCULATORS

ABSTRACT Removal of turbidity from water supply systems is an important aspect of water treatment works. In this study the efficacy of free jets for flocculation is examined. It was observed that depth of submergence of the nozzle had very little effect on the degree of mixing.

The influence of impinging jets on hydraulic jumps

Experiments were carried out in a horizontal channel with a free jump and jumps with jets introduced at various angles. Particles within the jumps were traced using a high-speed video camera and the images were processed using a computer to determine particle velocities within the jumps.

Hydraulic Jump Assisted by Cross-Jet

A new method of controlling a hydraulic jump is developed herein. Utilizing a submerged cross-jet, instead of solid chute blocks and baffle piers, to furrow and lift the supercritical approaching flow, a hydraulic jump is produced which requires a smaller tailwater depth and provides greater energy dissipation.

Wall Jet Analogy to Hydraulic Jump

Hydraulic jump on horizontal bed of a rectangular channel is treated as a plane turbulent wall jet of an incompressible fluid of finite width in adverse pressure gradient. Momentum integral techniques have been applied to determine the longitudinal variations of the parameters characterizing the assumed mean velocity distribution.

Hydraulic Performance of an Annular Plunging Jet Reactor

Agas-liquid reactor is described, in which a plunging jet issues into a confined downcomer column, entraining headspace gas as it impinges onto the surface of a receiving pool of the same liquid. The two-phase mixture flows down the confining column and then rises through a concentric annulus, before disengaging in a separation vessel.
