Turbulent thermohaline hydraulic jumps
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2021Turbulent entrainment properties of thermohaline internal hydraulic jumps in quiescent ambient water are investigated. Underflow and overflow jumps are considered. The study is mainly concerned with thermohaline buoyancy effects on flow development.

Transitional Expanding Hydraulic Jump
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2012This note presents the general features of velocity and variation in length scales of the transition expanding jump, free jump, and wall jet in the rectangular horizontal open channel. The experiments were performed for a range of Froude numbers from 2 to 6 and at an abrupt expansion ratio of 2.

The circular hydraulic jump commonly forms on a horizontal plate struck by a vertical jet of liquid. New observations of this phenomenon are described. A previously unreported instability of the jump is examined. This is shown to arise when the local Reynolds number R j just ahead of the jump exceeds a critical value of 147.

A definition sketch is proposed for the submerged hydraulic jump with the introduction of a submergence factor. Theoretical and empirical equations have been developed for the prominent flow parameters. The energy loss in the submerged jump has been shown to be considerably less than that in the corresponding free jump for higher submergences.
