Technical note: A guide to using three open-source quality control algorithms for rainfall data from personal weather stations [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences
The number of rainfall observations from personal weather stations (PWSs) has increased significantly over the past years; however, there are persistent questions about data quality.

A numerical geotechnical model for computing soil slides at banks of water reservoirs

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geo-Engineering, 2020
Soil slides can occur when the water level in a lake or a reservoir is lowered. This may take place in situations when a reservoir is flushed to remove sediments.

From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

Data assimilation of in situ soil moisture measurements in hydrological models: first annual doctoral progress report, work plan and achievements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Water scarcity and the presence of water of good quality is a serious public concern since it determines the availability of water to society. Water scarcity especially in arid climates and due to extreme droughts related to climate change drive water ...

High‐Throughput Exfoliation of Optoelectronic‐Grade MoS2 via Turbulent‐Flow Wet Jet Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable wet jet milling exfoliation method is demonstrated for producing optoelectronic‐grade MoS2 nanosheets using environmentally friendly ethyl cellulose in ethanol dispersion media. Guided by fluid dynamics modeling, this approach is optimized to achieve record‐high exfoliation throughput and concentration.

A standardised method for measuring in situ denitrification in shallow aquifers: numerical validation and measurements in riparian wetlands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A tracer test to examine in situ denitrification in shallow groundwater by a piezometer with a packer system used bromide as a tracer of dilution and acetylene (10%) to block the denitrification process at the nitrous oxide stage.

Analysis of experimental and simulation data of evaporation‐driven isotopic fractionation in unsaturated porous media

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal
Stable water isotopologs can add valuable information to the understanding of evaporation processes. The identification of the evaporation front from isotopolog concentration depth profiles under very dry soil conditions is of particular interest.

Large scale gas injection test (Lasgit) performed at the Äspö Hard Rock Laboratory: summary report 2007 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The deposition hole was closed on the 1st February 2005 signifying the start of the hydration phase. Groundwater inflow through a number of conductive discrete fractures resulted in elevated porewater pressures leading to the formation of conductive ...
