Synthesis of Ethyl Methyl Carbonate: Past, Present, and Future

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 15, 1 August 2026.
Ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC) is the simplest asymmetric organic carbonate, with properties between dimethyl (DMC) and diethyl (DEC) carbonate, considered a unique green liquid organic compound for lithium batteries (electrolyte) and gasoline blending (octane enhancer additive), among other uses. In accordance, the chemical production of EMC is expected

Química entre a microcamada superficial oceânica e os aerossóis marinhos

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2014
The sea surface microlayer (SML), although poorly understood, is important in biogeochemical cycling and sea - air exchanges; it is a source or a sink for a range of pollutants.

A Unified Photoredox Platform for Divergent Dual C─H/N─H Selenylation to Access N,C‐ and C,C‐Diselenides

open access: yesAsian Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2026.
We report a visible‐light photoredox‐catalyzed strategy for the divergent dual selenylation of inert C─H and N─H bonds. Using a single catalytic system with Ru(bpy)3Cl2·6H2O and diselenides, arylamines and indoles are selectively converted to distinct N,C‐ or C,C‐disubstituted organoselenides, respectively. ABSTRACT We report a visible‐light photoredox‐

Redox Modulation in Truxene‐Based Phosphaalkenes Through Peripheral Substitution

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 8, August 2026.
Peripheral halogenation, followed by the sequential incorporation of one, two, and three phosphaalkene acceptor units, induces progressive distortion of the truxene framework, modulates the frontier molecular orbital energies, and systematically shifts the reduction potentials to milder values.

Evolution of Whole-Cell Biosensor Detection Technology for PAHs and Their Halogenated Derivatives Driven by Performance Requirements

open access: yesBiosensors
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and their halogenated derivatives are important targets in environmental monitoring and pollution control because of their persistence, bioaccumulation, and potential carcinogenicity.

Interaction Among Microbiota, Chemical Composition, and Quality Variations in Coffea arabica Across Altitudinal Gradients During Wet Processing

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
Fermentation significantly altered the dominant bacterial genera from Sphingomonas and Pleomorphomonas (before fermentation) to Weissella and Lactobacillus (after fermentation), while Cladosporium and Fusarium remained the dominant fungal genera. Notably, non‐volatile compounds in de‐pulping coffee beans and volatile compounds of roasted coffee beans ...

The Variation in Emission Characteristics and Sources of Atmospheric VOCs in a Polymer Material Chemical Industrial Park in the Yangtze River Delta Region, China

open access: yesAtmosphere
To characterize the temporal variation in and source contribution of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in a polymer industrial park, a two-year offline monitoring campaign (2018–2019) at Shangyu Industrial Park in the Yangtze River Delta was conducted ...

Covalently Immobilized Lignin–Xanthene Conjugates for Persistent Surface Photochemistry and Self‐Sterilizing Interfaces Under Ambient Visible Light

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, Volume 47, Issue 15, 4 August 2026.
Bio‐derived lignin–Eosin Y macromolecular networks are developed as visible‐light‐responsive self‐sterilizing coatings that generate reactive oxygen species without leaching. The spray‐coated photopolymerized surfaces exhibit durable antibacterial and antiviral activity under ambient light for extended periods, demonstrating a scalable and sustainable ...

Seasonal Restructuring of Microbial Communities and Resistomes in the Shitalakshya River, Bangladesh Revealed by Shotgun Metagenomics

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
Dry‐season pollutant concentration drives microbial restructuring in Bangladesh's Shitalakshya River, shifting communities from Myroides to stress‐tolerant genera while enriching metal resistance genes and efflux pumps, revealing non‐antibiotic co‐selection as a key driver of antimicrobial resistance in urban waters.

Plastics and Bioplastics End of Life: A Biocatalytic Perspective

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 8, August 2026.
Biocatalysis links selected conventional plastics and bioplastics to biological routes for polymer transformation, product recovery and end‐of‐life management. Enzymes and microbes enable depolymerisation, upcycling and recovery of monomers, platform chemicals and new materials.
