Renewable fuels via catalytic hydrodeoxygenation

Applied Catalysis A: General, 2011
There is considerable interest in investigating the deoxygenation process, due to the high oxygen content of the feed-stocks used for the production of renewable fuels. This review addresses studies related to the catalytic hydrodeoxygenation of two feed-stocks (a) oils with high content of triglycerides and (b) oils derived from high pressure ...

Hydrodeoxygenation of Guaiacol over Ceria–Zirconia Catalysts

ChemSusChem, 2015
AbstractThe hydrodeoxygenation of guaiacol is investigated over bulk ceria and ceria–zirconia catalysts with different elemental compositions. The reactions are performed in a flow reactor at 1 atm and 275–400 °C. The primary products are phenol and catechol, whereas cresol and benzene are formed as secondary products.

N2-promoted hydrodeoxygenation

Nature Catalysis, 2019
Because of the high strength of N≡N bonds, N2 is often employed as an inert gas. Now it has been shown that it can partly react to yield surface nitrogen species that facilitate C–O hydrogenolysis reactions on supported Ru catalysts.

Mechanistic Investigation of Molybdate‐Catalysed Transfer Hydrodeoxygenation

Chemistry – A European Journal, 2016
AbstractThe molybdate‐catalysed transfer hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of benzyl alcohol to toluene driven by oxidation of the solvent isopropyl alcohol to acetone has been investigated by using a combination of experimental and computational methods. A Hammett study that compared the relative rates for the transfer HDO of five para‐substituted benzylic ...

Chemistry of Catalytic Hydrodeoxygenation

Catalysis Reviews, 1983
Abstract Hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reactions occur simultaneously with hydrodesulfurization (HDS) and hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) during catalytic hydrotreatment of liquid fuels. Extensive research activities in the areas of HDS and HDN have been dictated by environmental concern to limit SO2 and NOX emissions.

The hydrodeoxygenation of bioderived furans into alkanes

Nature Chemistry, 2013
The conversion of biomass into fuels and chemical feedstocks is one part of a drive to reduce the world's dependence on crude oil. For transportation fuels in particular, wholesale replacement of a fuel is logistically problematic, not least because of the infrastructure that is already in place. Here, we describe the catalytic defunctionalization of a

Influence of sulphur level on hydrodeoxygenation

Applied Catalysis, 1989
The effect of catalyst sulphidation on hydrodeoxygenation was studied under pseudo-steady-state conditions in a continuous trickle-bed reactor at 523 K. Sulphur was added to the feed in the form of carbon disulphide. The catalyst used was a commercial CoO-MoO3/γ-Al2O3 hydrotreating catalyst which was presulphided at 523 or 623 K.

Catalytic hydrodeoxygenation III. Interactions between catalytic hydrodeoxygenation of m-cresol and hydrodenitrogenation of indole

Journal of Catalysis, 1983
Abstract Simultaneous hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) and hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) is studied with indole/ m -cresol conversions over a sulfided CoMo HDS catalyst. The mutual inhibition of indole (and indoline) on HDO and of m -cresol on HDN is established.
