Integration of fiber coupled high-Q silicon nitride microdisks with atom chips

open access: yes, 2006
Micron scale silicon nitride (SiN_x) microdisk optical resonators are demonstrated with Q = 3.6 x 10^6 and an effective mode volume of 15 (\lambda / n)^3 at near visible wavelengths. A hydrofluoric acid wet etch provides sensitive tuning of the microdisk

Dual‐Stabilized Single‐Site Fe(II) for Catalytic Conversion of CO2 to Propiolic Acid Under Ambient Condition

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
We develop a highly cost‐effective heterogeneous catalyst for efficient CO2 conversion to propiolic acid under mild conditions via a nano‐confined approach with porous MIL support. ABSTRACT Efficient conversion of carbon dioxide to organics has been a promising outlet for value‐added carbon dioxide consumption.

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

Force to Debond Brackets from High-fusing and Low-fusing Porcelain Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that porcelain surface finishing, ie, low- and high-fusing porcelain, has an effect on the amount of force required to debond orthodontic brackets. A total of 20 high-fusing and 20 low-fusing porcelain

Defect Engineering and Effect of Vacancy Concentration on the Electrochemical Performance of V‐Based MXenes

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Using a top‐down defect engineering approach, controllable vacancy concentrations are introduced into V‐based MXenes by rationally designing the precursor MAX phase, aiming to investigate the effect of vacancy concentration on the electrochemical performance.

High‐Voltage Stability of LiCoO2 Cathode Materials Composited With Vanadium‐Based Glass Coatings

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Vanadium‐based glasses show fluidity and good wettability toward other materials at low temperatures. The controlled precipitation of nanocrystals in vanadium‐based glasses enhances the material's mechanical properties and electrical conductivity. The VPFL coatings bond to the LiCoO2 interface via chemical bonds.

Enhancing Anode‐Free Lithium Metal Batteries: A Lightweight MPTS‐MXene Current Collector for Superior Performance and Energy Density

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This study introduces an MPTS‐modified MXene current collector for anode‐free lithium metal batteries (AFLMBs). A key advantage of MPTS‐MXene is its ultralight weight, only 15% as heavy as standard copper per unit volume. Its special layered structure and Si‐O rich surface help lithium deposit smoothly and flat, while forming a protective layer that ...

Push–Pull Ynamines and Push–Pull Ynamides: Synthesis, Structure, Reactivity, and Application

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Push–pull ynamines and push–pull ynamides, which carry an EWG and an amino or amido group as EDG, are highly interesting classes of EDG‐EWG alkynes that have been intensively studied due to their exceptional reactivity. In this review, the synthesis, structure, reactivity, and application of push–pull ynamines, push–pull ynecarbamates, push–pull ...
