Scramjet sidewall burning: Preliminary shock tunnel results [PDF]

open access: yes
Experiments performed with a two dimensional model scramjet with particular emphasis on the effect of fuel injection from a wall are reported. Air low with a nominal Mach number of 3.5 and varied enthalpies was produced.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

An electrochemical method for determining hydrogen concentrations in metals and some applications [PDF]

open access: yes
An electrochemical method was developed for the determination of hydrogen in metals using the EG&G-PARC Model 350A Corrosion Measurement Console. The method was applied to hydrogen uptake, both during electrolysis and electroplating, and to studies of ...

Strong effects of time-dependent ionization in early SN 1987A

open access: yes, 2005
We study a time-dependent hydrogen ionization in the atmosphere of SN 1987A during the first month after the explosion. The model includes kinetics of hydrogen ionization and excitation, molecular hydrogen kinetics, and a time-dependent energy balance ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Origin of the change in giant magnetoresistance effects of Fe/V multilayer by hydrogen absorption

open access: yesAPL Materials
This study investigated the giant magnetoresistance (GMR) effect of a Fe/V(001) multilayer under different hydrogen concentrations in a hydrogen–nitrogen gas mixture to elucidate the effect of hydrogen absorption in the V layer on the exchange ...

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...
