Toxicological Response of the BEAS‐2B Cell After Acute Exposure at the Air–Liquid Interface to Ethylbenzene and m‐Xylene Alone and in Binary Mixtures

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (o‐, m‐, and p‐xylenes) constitute a family, named BTEX, of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) known for its toxicity. This study aimed to study the acute in vitro toxicity of ethylbenzene and m‐xylene on human bronchial epithelial cells exposed at the air–liquid interface (ALI).

Characterization of Newly Discovered Polyester Polyurethane‐Degrading Methylobacterium aquaticum Strain A1

open access: yesJournal of Basic Microbiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, we present Methylobacterium aquaticum A1, a novel strain capable of degrading polyester polyurethane (PE‐PUR). The attachment of M. aquaticum A1 to PE‐PUR and its degradation capabilities were verified using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier‐Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT‐IR).

Spent Pleurotus substrate as organic fertilizer to improve yield and soil fertility: the case of baby leaf lettuce production

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Spent mushrooms substrate is the most important waste generated by edible mushrooms industry and can be re‐used as organic fertilizer, following sustainable production principles. In the present study, Spent Pleurotus substrate (SPS) was used for organic fertilization of baby leaf production during two consecutive cycles (1st ...

Premature aging of red wines: a matter of fatty acid oxidation? A review on lipid‐derived molecular markers and their possible precursors

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Premature aging of red wines (PremOx) is an emerging defect in red wines, related to the onset of cooked fruit, plum and dried figs nuances, as well as the loss of aging potential. This review is focussed on the contribute of lipid‐derived compounds, mainly originating from fatty acids oxidation, to this defect.
